Adult Training

The adult education program is designed to provide opportunities for Adult Girl Scouts to gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to perform their volunteer jobs with competence and satisfaction. Click here to search the calendar for Adult Training Courses. Below is a list of frequently asked questions with answers to those questions.

What are the Basic Training Requirements to become a Troop Leader or Assistant Leader?
Listed below are the basic courses required to become a Girl Scout Troop Leader or Assistant Leader. These are to be completed within the first three months after appointment to the leadership position and consist of the following steps:
Orientation Session
Basic Leadership Training
An Age Level Course for Daisy, Brownie, Junior, or STUDIO 2B

At the completion of Basic Leader Training you will receive an individual Adult Development Record Card initialed by the trainer. Please take this card with you to each training and workshop and have the trainer initial it at the end of the course. This is your personal record and will be carried with you should you change your membership to another council.

What other additional training options are offered?
Throughout the year, various training courses are offered, including Canoe, First Aid/CPR, Archery, Lifeguard, and Outdoor Education Training. Occasionally other workshops are held, such as Songs & Games and Ceremonies & Traditions. In the fall, the Leader Weekend Retreat offers many opportunities for learning new crafts, sharing, and collecting lots of new ideas from fellow leaders during this fun-filled "adults only" campout.

Who takes these training courses?
Each Training course is open to all registered adults and Senior Girl Scouts within the Council's fifteen parishes.

How do I register for training sessions?
Registration is REQUIRED for all training courses. Please fill out a training registration form and mail it in with payment to the council service center or register online by clicking here. Registration deadlines vary from three to five days prior to the scheduled training session, depending on the type of course. Registration deadlines allow the trainer adequate planning time.
Send it to:

What happens after registration?
Confirmations are not sent. Participants are notified only in the event of a cancellation. Training courses may be canceled if minimum attendance numbers are not met. Participants will be notified by phone if a training session is canceled. There are NO REFUNDS unless the course is cancelled or full. You may request a transfer to another course or a refund within two weeks of class cancellation or notification that the class is full. After two weeks, the fee will be forfeited.

Can I just attend parts of the course or every session?
If a training course requires more than one session, you must attend all sessions to receive credit for the course.

What happens if I register and then find that I cannot attend?
If you cannot attend a course for which you are registered, PLEASE CALL the Service Center and cancel your reservation. It is critical because there are waiting lists established when courses become full before the registration deadline. Your absence could prevent someone else from attending.
Phone: 337-984-1142 or 1-800-960-2093

Do I have to bring anything to these sessions?
You must provide your own lunch for the sessions. Please bring a bag lunch when attending an all day training course or Trainfest Saturday.

Are there any baby-sitting services available?
Baby-sitting is not provided. Please make arrangements for children. Perhaps a troop committee parent will keep your children while you attend training.
